Practice Areas:

  • Insurance Defense
  • Civil Litigation

Overview:
Julia brings to Quinlivan Wexler LLP a wealth of experience in the areas of insurance defense and civil litigation.  She has substantial experience in the commercial, business, and insurance litigation fields.  During her almost twenty years with a large California law firm, she was involved with the handling of and serving as second-chair in more than twenty jury trials. An assertive and tenacious negotiator, Julia always works in the client’s best interest to avoid prolonged litigation, but brings these skills to the courtroom should circumstances prove necessary.

In the area of insurance defense, Julia is responsible for two published decisions: Cummings v. Farmers Insurance Exchange (1988) 202 Cal.App.3d 1407 and Velasquez v. Truck Insurance Exchange (1991) 1 Cal.App.4th 712.  Each of these cases resulted in favorable defense rulings in the insurance coverage context concerning material misrepresentation provisions in homeowners’ insurance policies and one-year suit.  In the area of first-party bad faith defense, she has over ten years of experience in both pre-trial and trial-related litigation.

Julia relieves the stress associated with litigation by thrashing her opponents on the racquetball court.  She plays on the local, state, and national amateur circuit for the United States Racquetball Association, California Racquetball Association, and International Racquetball Association.  She and her partner placed first in the Mixed Doubles B regional Pro-Am Tournament in September, 2006 and she won the Silver Medal in Women’s C Doubles in the USRA National double’s Tournament in October, 2006.  In February 2008 at the U.S. Nationals Doubles Tournament in Tempe, Arizona, she and her various doubles partners won two gold medals in Mixed C and Women C, and a silver in Mixed B doubles.

When not combating in the Courts or on the courts, Julia spends time with husband Howard Lemberg, a Worker’s Compensation Administrative Law Judge and their two beagles, Buddy and Tiki.
