Insurance/Self-Insured Defense

Quinlivan Wexler LLP was founded in 1994 by partner Rick Quinlivan after more than 20 years of practice in the insurance defense arena. Although the firm has expanded successfully into the other practice areas, Quinlivan Wexler LLP has continued to focus on serving its insurance company and self-insured clients. Over the years, we have represented insureds and self-insureds in a wide variety of cases, including:

  • auto accidents
  • premises accidents
  • assault & battery
  • defamation
  • construction defect
  • product liability
  • wrongful discharge
  • fire losses
  • claims against public entities

We understand the importance of providing the best possible defense of our clients in an efficient and cost effective manner. We work closely with the adjuster or client contact responsible for the handling of the case in the planning of the defense strategy. We communicate regularly as the case develops. We constantly evaluate the case exposure. When appropriate, we advise the client of opportunities for resolving the matter through summary procedures or settlement.

At Quinlivan Wexler LLP we recognize the benefits of alternative dispute resolution. We know when to utilize mediation or arbitration to the advantage of our client. We know that the best means of resolving most cases is not an expensive and risky trial. However, in those instances where a trial is the best option, we have the experience and the courage to try the case. Yes, we say “courage” because we know there are many so-called litigators who are unwilling to take a case to verdict.

Founding partner Rick Quinlivan, with more than 30 years of experience, oversees all of the litigation we handle. He has tried more than 60 cases to verdict with a very high percentage of defense verdicts.  Rick also serves as national counsel for a major manufacturer of tanks and cylinders. In that capacity, he directs all product liability litigation against the company and often is admitted as trial counsel by courts in jurisdictions outside of California.

Because of our extensive experience in handling the defense of matters referred by insurance companies and third party administrators, we are familiar with the requirements for litigation plans, budgets, and reporting. We are set up to handle electronic billing and have up to office technology.

To discuss a litigation matter confidentially or for information, please contact Rick Quinlivan, Attorney at Law @ 714.241.1919 or p.quinlivan@qwllp.com.
